An Action a Day (Maternal Prescriptions) uses the frame of performance to recast the material embodiment of early motherhood. For 84 days I reflected on, inhabited, and researched my experience of early maternal life through the FLUXUS-inspired format of the instruction piece. One moment each day was recast as a “prescription.” Sometimes this was a prescription for sanity, sometimes for a laugh, always for a new lens through which to look at the incessantly demanding materiality of my everyday in the context of the first six months of maternal care work. While the daily event score or instruction piece was my form, maternal attention and maternal affect structured my content.
